How is the marcus evans culture unique when it comes to providing opportunities to women?

In my first month at marcus evans, the strong culture of recognition became apparent. Not only was my work in talent acquisition having a strong impact on the organisation, but that impact was being recognised at all levels of the organisation and I was quickly able to grow into a role with a larger scope and reach. The overall structure is extremely meritocratic, which is inherently motivating- it’s not about who you know but rather the ideas you bring to the table and the work you put out. This structure allows for a much greater diversity at all levels and that is reflected in the multitude of brilliant women in leaderships roles at marcus evans.

What advice would you offer to the next generation of female leaders?

There is ample evidence that women in leadership roles can have transformative powers over organisations. Recognise that the very traits that were once thought to make women less suitable for positions of power are being shown time and time again to be key assets in great leaders. Don’t be afraid to listen more, ask questions and speak loudly.

Which women have inspired you the most professionally and personally? How?

As an avid reader with a bent towards female authors and feminist thought-leaders, I could speak to innumerable strong female voices that have influenced me over the years, but instead I will go with an answer that may be cliché, but is nevertheless the truth. I have been blessed to have been raised by a woman who started breaking down barriers when I was a baby- my mother. A year after I was born, my mom left her career in nursing as it became untenable to both fulfil the long hours that shift work demanded with a baby at home. She went back to school to study Computer Science and forged a successful career in an industry that was historically dominated by men. Throughout that career, she taught my sister and I, through her actions and words, that nothing should hold us back - especially not something as irrelevant as our gender. She now enjoys her retirement confident that her two daughters have flourishing careers as she travels the world. I aspire to be like my mother - she's my inspiration, my confidant and one day I hope to also enjoy my retirement travelling the world, knowing that I did great work to get there.
