1. In the upcoming Cashless Asia Forum, what are you most excited about contributing and gaining from the event?

At Payoneer, we have been discussing for a while, the diminishing role of cash across the world, and specifically in SEA. While many countries in the region still have a relatively low penetration of credit cards and traditional bank accounts, real-time payment solutions have become wildly popular owing to the high saturation of mobile usage as well as increasingly digital consumer preferences, making it the fastest growing eWallet market in the world.

Keeping this context in mind at the Cashless Asia Forum, we're really excited to dive into the latest innovations in the space and discuss how to leverage payments to foster your business growth and expansion.

2. With the expansion of cashless payments, what do you think are some challenges and opportunities that rise when transforming the payment industry?

Consumers are becoming increasingly demanding for solutions that go beyond simple payment options, including pre-paid cards, real-time payment acceptance, credit solutions and a frictionless checkout experience. In the end, customer experience is king. Having a wide range of payment solution offerings will allow businesses to better align with the varied and unique needs of their customers, resulting in a better experience overall.

As eWallets and other cashless payments become more entrenched in the commerce ecosystem, we’ll start to see more collaboration between marketplace platforms and wallets. The key challenge for both sellers and merchants would be to recognise this trend, and make the necessary adjustments to capture the region’s changing customer preferences.

3. What do you think are some solutions that will manage payments and simplify the cash management structure?

The pandemic has accelerated digital adoption and coupled with the rise of advanced payment methods, consumers, particularly the tech-savvy millennials and Gen-Z can be seen shifting the orbit of the digital payments landscape.

In this context, some of the solutions that are becoming increasingly popular are eWallets, mobile payments, Buy-Now-Pay-Later, Super Apps and collaboration between marketplaces and wallets.

4. How do you think cash and payments industry have pivoted through the pandemic and still are staying prominent in the endemic world?

A couple of years ago, digital transformation in the cash and payments industry was really spoken about in the sense of a "good to have" however what the pandemic has done is made digital really core to everything that we do. Now we see partners, customers and merchants talk about digital transformation, because it is truly business critical.

The pandemic has accelerated digital adoption in an unprecedented manner. eCommerce ecosystems will continue to evolve as digital payments become a preferred method of payment. Buyers across SEA are getting more sophisticated in their purchasing journeys, with around 80% utilising online channels during the discovery and evaluation stages.

5. As a solution provider, what are the 3 key areas that you are intending to address with the forum's attendees?

At the Cashless Asia Forum, we want to take the opportunity to talk about how the digital adoption trends are leading to the creation of omni-channel purchasing journeys and compelling businesses to adapt their payment methods to accommodate these changes. How marketplaces, platforms and digital enterprises can use the techonology and infrastructure to power cross-border commerce.

Lastly, we’d like to share our views on payment orchestration platforms, helping merchants to scale and expand fast by connecting to payment and risk providers that perfectly fit their business strategy.
