Dave Bell is a Vice President & Senior Counsel with Marriott International, Inc., where he has worked since 2012.  Dave is one of just four in-house litigation attorneys for Marriott, so his practice covers a broad array of civil litigation, from complex business disputes to franchisor liability and tort matters.  Dave is also heavily involved in Marriott’s e-discovery processes and works regularly with Marriott’s IT professionals and outside e-discovery vendors.  Dave earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Miami and graduated from the University of Virginia School of Law in 2001.  Prior to coming to Marriott, Dave was a litigator and member of the E-Discovery & Information Management Group at Crowell & Moring LLP in Washington, DC.

Manage long-term risks with the effective implementation of a defensible deletion policy 

In today’s digital age, organizations are constantly faced with the risk of costly consequences from delay in the implementation of a defensible deletion program for their electronically stored information (ESI).  As data accumulates, companies waste precious resources to maintain that data, at the expense of innovation and revenue. In fact, 96 percent of respondents to an industry survey agreed a defensible deletion strategy is “absolutely necessary” to reduce the costs and risks associated with information retention, according to an article by the American Bar Association.
